Safety Requirements
The safety of the individual on the water is the prime concern of everyone associated with the event.
Please take responsibility to conduct yourself properly in both a competitive and a social sense. All
participants must follow the instructions give by the event staff.
All participants will be provided with a buoyancy aid which must be worn whilst on the water.
As above all participants are required to attend a mandatory safety briefing before the activity
commences. Each participant will be required to sign the team declaration form following their safety
briefing on the activity day.
By signing the declaration form each participant acknowledges that they have understood the briefing they
have just received, that they have a duty of care to the other participants whilst on the water and that they
agree to follow the instructions given to them by the event organisers and the staff & officials and act in a
responsible manner whilst on the water. The event organisers will take all the normal and appropriate
precautions for a water sport.

training, supervision and equipment involved.

Leptospirosis & Weil’s Disease
It is stressed that Leptospirosis and Weil’s disease are both rare but can be caught by anyone engaged in a
water sport. An infection of Leptospira resembles a cold and influenza infection in the initial stages. The
incubation period is from 4 - 10 days. If you show symptoms after taking part in a water sport activity, you
should contact your doctor and tell him you have been participating in water sports and you suspect
Leptospira infection.
REDUCE YOUR RISK BY BEING AWARE!
